Amplify

This Project was about creating a concept for a Smart Watch App that helps hearing impaired people enjoy music in a Live Environment.

The Brief

For this project, I had to create a new application for the Apple Watch that could help benefit a specific group of people. As this Brief was quite broad, it meant that I was able to try and create a unique application that hasn't been thought of before.

Brainstorming

I initially started off by creating a mind map of some of the potential Avenues I could've taken this project. I then decided to highlight certain aspects that stood out to me.  Music has always been a big part of my life and I wanted to create an application that not only had music involved as one of the main focuses, but also had an impact for people with hearing impairments.

Research

After having some sort of an idea on what direction to go, I decided that I wanted to create a couple of User Personas to try and make me think more critically about the route I wanted to go for this project.  As I was thinking about creating a product for people with hearing impairments, I had to ensure that I considered their perspective's which is why a User Persona was crucial before I went into any sketches or digital design.

Sketching

After deciding what direction I wanted to take my project in, I then started with the next process which was the sketching of both the brand identity as well as the application itself.  Like every good designer, I went straight to my sketchbook to sketch a few ideas.  As I knew the kind of direction I wanted to take this project, the ideas came very naturally to me.  Once I had the logo idea sketched out, I then moved onto sketching out the wireframes of the actual application before taking my sketches into Adobe Illustrator and Figma.

Mock Ups

After creating the paper versions of my designs, I initially went into Adobe Illustrator and started with illustrating the logo/branding for my application as it would have been a prominent aspect throughout the design.  After some minor adjustments, I landed on a logo that I felt was suitable for this project.  I then went into Figma to start creating the basis for the application before creating Mockups of how it would look on an Apple Watch.

Looking Back

Overall, I found this project really enjoyable to do as well as teaching me to try and think for a broader audience.  I was able to enhance my research skills as well as help me to be a more critical designer by making me think about wider and more niche audiences.
